The Donkey Trio – A Peaceful Life
Life moves at a slower, sweeter pace for the three donkeys who call Kajasun Sanctuary home. This lovable little herd includes two boys and a girl — Becky, Nikki, and Bubbles — each with their own quirks, charm, and gentle personalities.

Becky, the brown donkey, is calm and observant. Nikki, our grey boy, is the most affectionate — he absolutely loves a hug. And then there’s Bubbles, the smallest of the three and the only girl. When she first arrived, Bubbles was shy and cautious. She would keep her distance, especially from people. But over time, with gentle patience and care, she’s started to come around. Now, each morning, I’m able to walk up to her, greet her softly, and even give her a quiet stroke without her darting away. It’s a beautiful sign of trust.
Their days follow a slow rhythm. In the early morning, you’ll usually find the donkeys sunning themselves by the gate, soaking in the first warmth of the day. As the hours pass, they make their way up through the middle of the property, ending their day high up at the top — their own little daily migration across the sanctuary.
And they’re clever too! If you arrive early enough, before the horses are let out and the grass has been laid down, you might just catch the donkeys sneaking in to steal a few mouthfuls of the horses' breakfast — a mischievous but endearing habit they haven’t quite grown out of.
Watching them now, so calm and content, it’s hard to believe there was ever a time when they didn’t feel safe around people. Their transformation is a quiet reminder of what kindness and consistency can do.
The donkeys of Kajasun live a peaceful, grounded life — just as they deserve.
