Aura & Carly | Chelsea & Cadell
At Kajasun Sanctuary, the bond between mother and foal is one of the most tender things to witness — and we’re lucky to care for not one, but two beautiful mare-and-foal pairs: Aura and Carly, and Chelsea and Cadell.
Aura & Carly – Soft-Spoken Souls

Aura, a graceful chestnut mare, is gentle to her core. She and her foal Carly — also a chestnut with no white markings — are both calm, kind, and quietly affectionate. Aura tends to be submissive in the herd, always giving space to others and carrying herself with humility. Carly, following in her mother’s footsteps, is sweet-natured and easy to be around.
She loves having her face rubbed and responds beautifully to quiet affection. In training, Carly is learning to walk in soft circles and is slowly being introduced to transitions — moving gently into a trot and returning to a walk. Her training is slow, steady, and nurturing, just like her nature. Carly remains very attached to Aura, and it’s not uncommon to hear her calling for reassurance when they’re momentarily apart.
Chelsea & Cadell – Cautious but Courageous
Chelsea, a fleabitten grey, came to us in rough condition. She was painfully thin, but her foal Cadell was healthy and plump — a testament to her devotion. Chelsea has clearly had a hard life, and it still shows. She struggles to trust people, but she’s safe here, and that trust is growing, day by day.
Cadell, a striking young bay, started out cautious too. But with time and training, he’s beginning to show more confidence. He’s a little more advanced than Carly because he had to undergo gelding, which meant being lunged and handled more during that process.
Now, he’s learning to go out in calm circles, work under light contact, and return with ease.
Unlike Aura and Carly’s strong bond, Chelsea is a bit more independent. She and Cadell often graze together peacefully, but when Cadell is up in the top arena working, Chelsea doesn’t fret too much — a sign of her slow but steady confidence in his growth.
Together, these four are a beautiful example of what healing, space, and compassion can do. From Aura’s softness to Chelsea’s resilience, and the blossoming confidence of Carly and Cadell, their stories remind us that progress looks different for everyone — and that’s okay.
